1. Our PCPNDT declaration
Mythili’s Fetal Medicine Centre is registered under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 (PCPNDT Act). We do not determine, disclose or help with selecting the sex of a foetus, in any way, at any stage of pregnancy. Prenatal diagnostic tests and procedures are carried out only for the purposes permitted by the Act.
Seeking, performing or advertising sex determination or sex selection is a punishable offence under the Act.
2. What the law means at your visit
- Before every ultrasound in pregnancy we complete Form F, including your declaration that you do not want to know the sex of your baby.
- The doctor declares on each report that she has neither detected nor disclosed the sex of the foetus.
- Invasive procedures such as amniocentesis or CVS are done only with your written consent in the prescribed form.
- We keep these records for at least two years, and send the monthly reports required under the Act and Rules to the Appropriate Authority.
3. Reporting a violation
If you know of sex determination being offered or carried out anywhere, you can report it to the District Appropriate Authority (PCPNDT), Kanniyakumari: Office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Nagercoil (phone 94422 88316).
